Also handy is Preditors and Editors, which has a list of most publishing houses and agents out there, so you can double check any agent or publishing house you find. It’s not 100% but it’s a good way to check who is a scammer and who isn’t.
But using this easy checklist from the Science Fiction Writer’s Association, you can start to weed out the obvious bad eggs. It doesn’t hurt to start thinking about this stuff and educating yourselves early, if getting that novel published is what you want. Just try not to let it distract you from finishing the book.
