Would it be a bad idea to wear a helmet with long (1 1/2 foot), straight horns that are angled back and out?

It’s an extremely bad idea. The last thing you want to do is put handles on your armor for your opponent to latch onto. Especially when it comes to your helmet, where, at best, a good swift twist could leave you temporarily blinded, and then dead. At worst you can skip the blinded stage, and go straight to dead.

As far as I can remember, the actual origin for horned helmets is opera, not warfare. You can buy horned Wagnerian helmets, but, they’re more of a gag and theatrical item. Not something you want to take into battle, no matter how cool you think they look.
